Promo Tiles

Visual Designer

FCA USA brands wanted to make an update to the promo tile component that sits on their homepage. They wanted a visual focused design that would offer a lot of flexibility for the brand designers and content authors to make last minute promo updates and use anywhere on the site.

Before & After

The brands’ expectations were to create a new accessible design that also visually combines the copy with the photography. Combining the two together challenged us to work very closely with a UX designer as well as an Accessibility lead to create an accessible design that meets the Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) while promoting the vehicles in a more visually exciting way.

Our Plan

Since the purpose of this project was to redesign the component, the brands provided us with design examples they wanted to achieve. We came to a conclusion that the best approach would be to create different templates in the authoring field that can be easily controlled and modified by the brands. Our main goal was to ensure that each template follows and includes all of the elements in the examples they provided.

Accessibility

With all of the templates, for accessibility, we were required to include a default 60% background overlay box behind the copy so that the copy always meets the contrast requirement when it is placed on the image. It can only be either black or white and the overlay percentage can be authored from 0 - 100%.

Design Requirements

To ensure this component is flexible and meets the design expectations, we included the following list of authorable styling options available for the templates:
